Gainsborough, The Cottage Girl Art Print
A child in ragged clothing has come from a cottage to take water from a brook. She stands forlornly, holding a broken earthenware pitcher in one hand and a dog in the other. During the 1780s, Gainsborough painted almost twenty 'fancy pictures' of rustic figures, often children, set in Arcadian, imaginary landscapes.
